We run sugar craft classes at our shop in Midleton. We cater for everyone – from complete beginner to someone looking to improve their skills!
Gingerbread House founder, Emma organises and manages the sugar craft classes and is passionate about sharing her love of cake decorating and knowledge with you. We ensure all participants have a relaxed, enjoyable and, most importantly, fun day decorating. There is nothing quite like the feeling of excitement and pride that everyone has at the end of class when they see what they have achieved!

Adult Classes
Come along to one of our classes to learn some new sugarcraft skills.
Everything needed for the classes are provided by us, come along empty handed and decorate some cupcakes.
You’ll go home with a box of cupcakes that you’ll have decorated yourself.

Class description:

In this class you will learn to layer and decorate a 6inch real cake. From layering, filling, crumb coating and a sharp edge finish to learning how to add edible details to your cake.
In this class you will learn:
Learn about American Buttercream and Swiss Meringue Buttercream
How to make both American and Swiss meringue buttercream from scratch (please note this is a Demo)
How to layer a 6inch vanilla cake with buttercream
How to prepare a cake to decorate
How to create smooth, straight sharp edges
How to create chocolate drips
How to make edible chocolate decorations
Learn how to use piping nozzles to create a decorative boarder on your cake
All tools and equipment needed for this class will be provided
A handout with class notes will be provided at the start of the class, but please bring a notebook and pen with you. We encourage you to ask as many questions as possible during the class.
We will provide you with a box to take home your cake in.
Skill level: this class is perfect for absolute beginners or those looking to improve their skills.
Lunch: tea/coffee will be available on arrival and throughout the class. A light lunch will be provided for full day courses. Please let us know of any dietary requirements.

Workshop Description:

In this class you will learn to layer and decorate a 6inch real cake. From layer, filling, crumb coating and covering with fondant. You will learn how to use sweet sticks edible art paint to add colour and how to make a basic fondant bear using modelling paste.
In this class you will learn:
Learn to make basic vanilla buttercream, how to add flavourings (please note this is a Demo)
How to make chocolate ganache (demo)
Layer your cake with buttercream and ganache
How to cover a cake with sugar paste(fondant) to create smooth, straight sharp edges
How to use modelling paste to create a figurine
Learn how to make simple sugar flowers
How to add basic royal icing to add piped elements to your cake
How to use sweet sticks edible art paint

Workshop Description:

In this class you will decorate a winter scene complete with penguins, polar bear and trees ideal to top your Christmas cake. This class is ideal as a follow on class from Simple Celebration Cake or for anyone who has confidence in cake decorating and would like to upskill.
In this class you will learn:
Cover a board with sugar paste(fondant) to create a ‘winter wonderland’
How to use modelling paste to create a figurines and trees
How to add basic royal icing to add piped elements to your cake
Use sweet sticks edible art paint
How to use lustre dusts to create depth
